Two police officers were among seven suspects arrested on Wednesday evening after a sting operation found them ferrying cannabis (bhang) worth 1.7 million in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

According to police sources, officers acting on a tip-off mounted a roadblock at Gitaru along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. The operation specifically targeted two vehicles at around 1:50 a.m.

Upon the interception, 59 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa were recovered. The drugs were hidden inside three large bags in one of the vehicles.

A further search of the second vehicle, which was used as an escort, revealed the identity of the driver as a Constable attached to Buruburu Police Station. His colleague, also a Constable, was from Juja Police Station. Four other occupants were in the escort vehicle.

Police have since launched investigations into the possible links between the officers and a larger narcotics trafficking network operating between Nairobi and Nakuru. The seized vehicles have been detained at Kikuyu Police Station as exhibits, and the suspects remain in custody.
