Parents are asking the school heads to work hard on improving learners’ performance as well as strengthening their security.
Kiambu County Parents Association chairman Samuel Wanjema said it was sad when students fail exams despite having attended all lessons in a term.
Speaking at Limuru Town Comprehensive School, Wanjema said parents invest a lot of money in educating their sons and daughters.
The chairman noted that some school heads and their staff have frustrated parents when they learn cases of too many poor results, misconduct among the students, lateness among others.
”All parents have a lot of trust in their children that they will perform better. Some normally counsel them, but they end up performing poorly. Those affected are those in secondary schools,” he said.
Wanjema urged the Ministry of Education to follow up on how the schools are being run, adding that they aim at seeing students scoring better grades at national exams and that they leave those institutions as well-mannered people.
”We counsel our sons and daughters, especially in secondary schools. These are affected by peer pressure, teenage changes, and even status. However, we must push them since they must perform well and be well-mannered to socialize and mingle in the society,” he said.
The chairman revealed that with the new Competency-Based Education, parents are aware that there will be job competition when the CBE graduates will start looking for jobs together with those who did the 8-4-4 before them.
”We want all our children to benefit from the education. We must join hands in improving performance, ensuring our learners are well educated, disciplined, are well secured, safe and are in good hands. By so doing, they can work hard,” he said.
