The digital economy has emerged as a fundamental catalyst for enhancing cross-border trade across the continent. During a side event at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, key leaders highlighted the necessity of digital investment and policy reform to empower Africa’s burgeoning tech sector

Kenya’s ICT Cabinet Secretary, William Kabogo, emphasized that Africa possesses the internal capacity to develop digital solutions capable of solving complex, trans-boundary challnges Clara Chappaz, the French Minister for AI and Digital Technologies, noted that the evolving relationship between Europe and Africa is shifting toward investments that provide mutual benefits. She advocated for a strategic pivot to ensure these technological advancements directly benefit the continent’s youth

Culture PS Ummi Bashir highlighted the economic stakes, noting that with 60% of Africa’s population consisting of young people, the continent is uniquely positioned to capture billions of dollars in value from the digital economy

To safeguard these advancements, the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) is advocating for legislative updates. Their goal is to establish robust policies that protect the intellectual property of young innovators while simultaneously providing financial backing for digital startups.

Furthermore, a joint commitment between France and Kenya focuses on creating peer-to-peer learning environments, allowing young tech professionals to exchange knowledge and scale their expertise.

The summit also featured a NOVA GARAGE event, which served as a practical bridge between talent and investment. During this session, 15 digital innovators representing eight African nations pitched their projects to potential financiers, showcasing the practical application of the continent’s digital potential.
